You can demonstrate your commitment to protecting today’s youth and building safer communities by…

  • Contacting your school administrators to encourage them to participate in National Youth Violence Prevention Week (NYVPW) and to initiate a SAVE Promise Club
  • Review the Sandy Hook Promise Website
  • Familiarize yourself with Start With Hello and Say Something, two easy to implement and FREE programs from Sandy Hook Promise that empower and educate youth on how to prevent violence BEFORE it happens. Schedule a time with a school counselor to discuss bringing the programs to your school
  • Inviting your local legislators to participate in NYVPW and asking them to officially recognize the event
  • Wearing violence-prevention ribbons and hanging NYVPW banners to demonstrate your support for the initiative
  • Promoting NYVPW through your school newspaper
  • Planning activities for your school clubs to recognize the week and spread the word
  • Offering your time, talent, and energy to help out with events throughout the week
  • Creating a special webpage on your school’s website that highlights NYVPW and its strategies
  • Adding a link on your agency’s website or social media page to National Youth Violence Prevention Week
  • Sending press releases to your local media about NYVPW
  • Attending your school’s violence prevention conference and sharing your concerns about youth violence
  • Creating and displaying a NYVPW poster with information on local in-school conferences
  • Talking to your friends and fellow students about the violence prevention strategies promoted by NYVPW
  • Joining a local roundtable and uniting in action with others in your community to reduce violence
  • Setting up a table at a community event where you can share information about SAVE Promise Clubs, NYVPW and Sandy Hook Promise
  • Becoming mentors to younger students in your school and teaching them effective ways to prevent violence
  • Promoting NYVPW with a newsletter article or blog
  • Delivering a daily NYVPW message through your social media #NYVPW
  • Following @nationalsave and @sandyhook on social media to stay informed of NYVPW activities
