You can demonstrate your commitment to protecting today’s youth and building safer communities by…

  • Contacting your local schools to encourage them to participate in National Youth Violence Prevention Week (NYVPW) and to initiate a SAVE Promise Club
  • Promoting NYVPW through your department’s newsletter or chief’s blog
  • Delivering a daily NYVPW message through your social media
  • Inviting your community’s council members and mayor to participate in NYVPW and asking them to officially recognize the event
  • Asking your local media to cover NYVPW
  • Having your School Resource Officers, school liaisons, and DARE partners learn more about Sandy Hook Promise’s free Know the Signs programs to implement in their schools throughout the year
  • Reviewing the Say Something materials from Sandy Hook Promise, and learn what it means to be a trusted adult to youth
  • Requesting to be interviewed by local newspaper or community cable show host about NYWPW and actions being taken in the community
  • Wearing violence-prevention ribbons and hanging banners to demonstrate your support for NYVPW
  • Adding a link from your agency’s website or social media page to National Youth Violence Prevention Week
  • Offering to present or sponsor workshops for local in-school violence prevention conferences
  • Donating time, talent, energy and resources to help out with local events throughout the week
  • Creating and displaying a NYVPW poster with information on local in-school conferences
  • Attending your local school’s violence prevention conference and expressing your concerns about youth violence
  • Selecting a representative from your department to join a local roundtable and uniting in action with others in your community to reduce violence
  • Adopting a school and donating educational resources to teach students there how to reduce violence
  • Following @nationalsave and @sandyhook on social media to stay informed of #NYVPW activities
