White Oak High School 2015-2016
PRESS: White Oak Senior Recognized Nationally for Volunteerism – Channel 12 ABC
White Oak High School began collaborating with Friends of Rachel during America’s Safe School Week and Red Ribbon Week. The SAVE chapter created posters, presentations, anti-violence pledges, and paper chain links for Rachel’s Challenge. For National Youth Violence Prevention Week in April, White Oak High School’s SAVE chapter will promote information through posters, meetings, and announcements regarding domestic violence, dating violence, suicide, and cyber-bullying. In May for National Youth Traffic Safety Month, SAVE Club will perform seat-belt checks on all student drivers and remind students about safe driving choices leading up to prom. To coincide with the school’s senior picnic the school will host an activity where students operate golf carts while wearing mock-drunk goggles.
Other upcoming events for the year include the SAVE Club mentoring students at Hunters Creek Elementary School on topics such as peer mediation and conflict. SAVE members will adopt a family for the Angel Tree Christmas and Thanksgiving Panther Feast Turkey. The chapter worked with the elementary school making reindeer pops as a gift for the family. The SAVE orchestra performed for the Pollocksville Presbyterian Church. Members will also work with the Green Team to create a landscape plan for the courtyard and Senior Walkway to include landscaping and a fountain that honor SAVE and its message.
