East Chapel Hill High School

East Chapel Hill High School SAVE Chapter hosted awareness activities during America’s Safe Schools Week including hanging ribbons and distributing information materials.  For their service project in December, they collected filled Christmas stockings and presented them at the Ronald McDonald House.

The Chapter conducted a Teen dating Awareness Activity in February.  Throughout the year the SAVE chapter will also participate in other youth safety awareness activities including National Smoke Out day and conduct Teen Dating Violence awareness activities for Valentines Day.

A Mock Car Crash was held for all Juniors and Seniors – first an indoor assembly with speakers ranging from law enforcement to a parent who lost a child in a DUI accident. Second, an outdoor assembly with the “mock” crash, including law enforcement, EMS, Fire and UNC Health Flight helicopter.

The Drunk Driving experience at Spring Fest day gave students the opportunity to drive a golf cart around a course designed by law enforcement wearing the drunk goggles.  They also participated in road side sobriety tests wearing the drunk goggles. The SAVE Advisor at East Chapel Hill High School is Shari Coveney.
