SAVE is excited to be planning the 25th Anniversary SAVE Youth Summit in Raleigh, NC at the NC State McKimmon Center.   This fun and educational event is a time for youth to showcase effective violence prevention strategies and share their successes with their peers.  We hope you willAgenda join us in celebrating 25 years of students making a difference!

This event is a time for youth voices to be heard in workshops, peer-to-peer presentations, and activities that Encourage, Educate, Engage, and Empower youth with violence prevention strategies. Learn how SAVE chapters are addressing youth violence, bullying, gangs, dating violence, theft, social media safety, substance abuse, self harm and teen driving safety.  There will be motivating workshops, outstanding speakers, national awareness efforts and special presentations.

Gary WeartGary Weart has served in the capacity of teacher, coach, administrator, university supervisor, and violence prevention specialist. His 38 years of experience have involved all levels of students from kindergarten through graduate students in college. Mr. Weart was the first advisor and Cofounder of SAVE at West Charlotte High in 1989. Mr. Weart has received numerous awards and recognition for his efforts to address the issue of youth violence. He was extremely honored and humbled to carry the Olympic Torch in 1996 and again in 2001. Mr. Weart is a “Presidential Service Award” winner from former President William J. Clinton and a “Point of Light” under former President George W. Bush. He has been featured with Mr. William Friday on “NC People,” and recognized by the National Crime Prevention Council with a National Youth Service Award. In addition, Mr. Weart was the recipient of an “International Peace Hero Award,” from Discovery Toys. He has authored a book entitled: “A Teacher Shoots Back: Targeting School Violence.” This work chronicles not only the history of the SAVE Organization but is also a memoir of his life.

Kit Evans 14Kit Evans is a woman who is passionate about nonviolence and serving others. A national trainer and speaker, Evans is an activist with SAVE and Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service. Kit started working with SAVE as a student at Eastern Alamance High School 17 years ago. She also served on the very first National SAVE Youth Advisory Board, and currently serves on the SAVE Board of Directors. Evans works relentlessly in the areas of violence prevention, conflict resolution, rape crisis intervention, and assisting people in healing. With dual masters degrees in Teaching, Evans also holds a Master of Divinity. She has studied, worked, and served in England, Japan, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis.

In May of 2008, Kit became a survivor of an extremely violent sexual assault on her life. After surviving the attack, she became more driven to promote the power of nonviolent social change. Kit uses her education, teachings on nonviolence and conflict resolution, travels, experiences with healing, dance, and spirituality as an speaker, teacher, activist and is the founder of Testimonies for Hope.




SAVE chapters are asked to participate in the creation of a SAVE Peace Quilt! Please decorate orange, purple or white 9” X 12” felt pieces in nonviolent messages.  Feel free to decorate with markers, paint, glued on items, etc.   At the Summit we will be joining the squares together with purple and orange yarn to form the SAVE Peace Quilt. If you cannot attend the Summit, please mail your chapter’s items to the National SAVE office before April 1, 2014.
