  • Establishment of Nonprofit:
    In 2001, the National Association of SAVE was established as a nonprofit for the continued growth of the program.
  • Children’s Defense Fund:
    Angelena Bynum, student founder of SAVE, was recognized by the Children’s Defense Fund in 1996.
  • President’s Service Award:
    In 1995, SAVE was bestowed the President’s Service Award (the nation’s highest volunteer award) for dedication and determination in keeping the message of nonviolence known and keeping our schools and communities safe.
  • Corporation for National and Community Service:
    SAVE responded to and was recognized by President Bill Clinton for its efforts with the corporation.
  • Daily Point of Light:
    On August 28, 1992, SAVE was recognized as the 875th “Daily Point of Light” by former President George H. W. Bush. Award was received by Gary Weart, the first SAVE Chapter Advisor.
