PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL YOUTH VIOLENCE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN
Everyone can play a role in supporting young people. National Youth Violence Prevention Week (April 3-7, 2017) is a great time to get involved. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness and to educate students, teachers, school administrators, counselors, school resource officers, school staff, parents, and the public on effective ways to prevent or reduce youth violence.
The National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) is proud to be a founding organization of the National Youth Violence Prevention Campaign, now in its fourteenth year. During this week-long national education initiative various activities will demonstrate the positive role young people can have in making their schools and communities safer. With the support of national premier youth-serving organizations, each day of the week focuses on a specific violence prevention strategy. These include promoting respect and tolerance, anger management, resolving conflicts peacefully, supporting safety, and uniting in action. Campaign strategy sponsors offer activities, information, and spokespersons to support each day’s focus. We also are delighted to announce that a number of other organizations have joined as community partners to bring a variety of perspectives and resources to the campaign.
Each day of the week highlights a specific challenge to prevent youth violence. For 2017, these topics were proposed by the campaign’s Youth Advisory Board:
- Monday, April 3: Promoting Respect and Tolerance, sponsored by Teaching Tolerance
- Tuesday, April 4: Manage Your Anger, Don’t Let it Manage You, sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics
- Wednesday, April 5: Resolve Conflicts Peacefully, sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network
- Thursday, April 6: Support Safety, sponsored by the STRYVE Action Council
- Friday, April 7: Unite in Action, sponsored by Youth Service America
